PUBLIC TALKS

“Changing the World, One Artist at a Time” on October 7 at 3 pm at Durham Technical Community College

Nearing the end of a year of traveling to 13 countries around the world to interview artists about how their artwork revitalizes their communities, Catherine, an artist herself, wanted to believe that art objects could change the world.  However, as she has traveled, she has been forced to recognize the fact that art objects alone rarely impact individuals.  The real impact of “art” comes directly from the personalities of the artists themselves.  While art is a powerful manifestation of the human creative spirit, artists are the real impetus for lasting social change.  With their eyes and hearts open, artists can see the problems that are plaguing their communities, and with their capacity to think creatively, they can envision alternative solutions for those problems.  Join Catherine for a discussion about how artists are changing their communities all around the world and how you can be a creative catalyst for change.
